Strengthening the existing strategic partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

In the framework of strengthening the existing strategic partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Mr. Khaled Al-Fanatseh, President of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, and Mr. Ahmad Albazaia, the program manager of the flexible work permit project, held an extensive meeting with Marguerite Duponchel the Head of the Development Unit and Rania Bakeer the Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment Officer.
The meeting served as a platform for dialogue on ways to enhance coordination and communication between the Jordanian Trade Union Federation and its Syrian counterpart, in a manner that serves the common interests of refugee workers and promotes their rights to safe and decent working environments. Participants also discussed mechanisms to support the voluntary return program for refugees by creating sustainable job opportunities for returnees in Syria, thereby contributing to their economic and social reintegration.
In this context, the importance of holding regular and periodic meetings between UNHCR and the Federation was highlighted, given the pivotal role of the Federation as an umbrella covering work permits issuance to refugees, enabling them to join the Jordanian labor market legally and formally. This, in turn, provides them with protection and stability, while positively reflecting on local and regional development pathways .
